Description

This is part of my series of pictures focused on some of the lesser known mythical creatures from around the world paired with their personified country of origin from Hidekaz Himaruya's Hetalia.

eleventh-Turkey and a zilant dragon

"Zilant is a legendary creature, something between a dragon and a Wyvern. Since 1730, it has been the official symbol of Kazan. This winged snake is a part of Tatar and Russian folklore and is mentioned in legends about the foundation of Kazan." It was mainly found in Tartar folklore, which originates in the Turkish area. There are several stories involving the original zilant and many different appearance descriptions. It was also found in/on several coat of arms. It had many different symbolic meanings. You can find the actual myth here: dragonwisdom.wikia.com/wiki/Zi…
It is too long of a story to fit here.

HEADCANON
Over the years Turkey has ended up with a bit aa heroic streak, he just doesn't flaunt it the way America does. So, when he saw a suspicious person with a blood soaked sleeve, he decided to tail them. No one else seemed to notice him. A few years earlier Turkey had discovered a network of underground magical poachers. This man seemed to fit their MO. Turkey tailed the man until he reached one of the entrances to the magical flipside of Istanbul. Then, Turkey took the man out, not wanting to loose him in the underground. On the man he found a large egg, a dragon's egg. He took it home with the intention of handing it off to one of the magic trio. However, it hatched before he had the chance. Upon discovering that the dragon was a zilant, a dragon native to Turkey, he decided to raise the creature himself. Now, thirty years later, the female dragon, named Sihirli (which I believe is Turkish word for magic, please correct me if I'm wrong), is still very young for a dragon, but a lot more independent. She lives in the mountains and Turkey goes to visit her as often as he can. There are still poachers around and he worries for her safety. Not to mention, he's become attached to his scaled friend. She is always there in the clearing outside her cave, waiting for him whenever he comes. Even though she knows he's coming she always get excited and overly affectionate when she actually sees him. This picture is the moment when Turkey manages to get her to calm down.
